Book Review: Hope and Sunshine by Debasmita Nath Ghosh
Hope and Sunshine is the story of Naina and Aditya.
The title and the cover of the book appealed to me quite a lot. It’s a simple, easy and quick read with well-built characters.
Naina works in a big firm in Kolkatta and holds a position that is highly responsible and is in a long-distance relationship with Ved who works in Mumbai. They are sweethearts from college and manage to stay in touch with each other over phone and SMS.
When Ved’s mother gets diagnosed with brain tumour, their relationship goes through a tough phase. Meanwhile, Aditya joins Naina’s office; that he is her cousin Aravind’s best friend forms the foundation for a thick friendship between Aditya and Naina.
What changes happen to Naina and Ved’s relationship and how they take it further is what forms the rest of the book.
The language is good and the prose flows smoothly. The pace is steady enough to make the reading a pleasurable experience, the characters are realistic and very minimum.
The book makes for a light breezy read and can be done with in a single sitting.
